The odt file will have highlighting intact. doc file will be gone notes will be there but you cannot tell exactly which part of the text they relate to. doc format (MS word 97/2000/XP) and then reopen that same file in OO - the highlighting in. just create a text file, highlight a sentence, press ctrl+alt+c and enter a note. doc format and working OO without such problems.
